Inclement Weather Policy

The decision to keep schools open or to close them during winter weather conditions is not a simple one, but it is made with one overriding factor in mind: the well-being of our students, their families and staff. It is a good idea to decide in advance how to best keep up with the changes, what childcare arrangements are needed, and how to adjust if schools are closed due to inclement weather. Detailed DPS winter weather and snow day information, including information on how families can find out if school is closed, can be found at: http://communications.dpsk12.org/announcements/winter-weather-and-snow-day-information

For DPS, the decision to close school or delay school times rests with the Superintendent after close coordination with the Chief Operating Officer. This decision is not made easily and is normally based on a collection of information between midnight and 5:00 a.m. such as road conditions, conditions of schools, etc. Whenever possible, this decision will be made by 5:00 a.m. and announced. As we rely on many DPS services, The Odyssey School of Denver will close for snow when Denver Public School District closes for snow or at the discretion of the Director. Parents are asked to tune in to KOA radio at 850 AM, KBNA 1220 AM Spanish Radio, and local television stations beginning at 5:00 A.M. for the latest school closure information. When you hear that DPS has announced that it will be closed, know that the Odyssey School of Denver is closed. We will also do our best to send out a school-wide email and update our home page of our website and social media.
